Generalmajor Friedrich-Carl von Steinkeller (28 March 1896 † 19 October 1981) was a German officer who rose to the rank of Generalmajor during the Second World War. He distinguished himself as a Panzergrenadier commander in one of the Wehrmacht’s most famous armored formations, the 7. Panzer-Division. Awards and Decorations: Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) – 31 March 1943, as Oberstleutnant and Kommandeur of Panzergrenadier-Regiment 7, 7. Panzer-Division. Career Highlights: A veteran of the First World War who remained in the Reichswehr between the wars. Took command of Panzergrenadier-Regiment 7 of the 7. Panzer-Division, one of the Wehrmacht’s most elite armored units, during the fighting on the Eastern Front. Awarded the Knight’s Cross for his leadership and bravery in combat operations in 1943. Promoted to Generalmajor before the war’s end. Survived captivity and lived in West Germany until his death in 1981.
