Such is the case with the present recorded works, which were published almost three hundred years ago.Included in Telemann’s catalog of works is the fantasy collection for viola da gamba, although the collection itself was thought to be lost for good until, in late 2015, one surviving copy was found in the private library at Ledenburg Castle in Osnabrück in northern Germany.My travels with these works have been exciting and different because the pieces were indeed new: somewhat out of the norm, I had not previously heard them in concerts or on recordings. In these fantasies, one may hear snippets from some well-known works of the era, which were no doubt the composer’s intentional compliments to his colleagues or even close family friends.
