Romeo and Julieta was first performed as a Havana in 1875 and was named after the tragic lovers in William Shakespeare's plays. After visiting Havana in 1946, Winston Churchill became a devoted fan of the brand, and Romeo's time-honoured star size is now considered a symbol. The early 20th century is when the vitola was created. Beginning in the middle of the 1950s, Churchill gave permission for his name to be used on it.
